Position Summary:
The Clinical Director/Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the nursing department and non-clinical department within the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The Clinical Director/DON ensures safe, high-quality, and cost-effective patient care in compliance with all regulatory standards, accrediting bodies, and organizational policies. This role oversees clinical staff and non-clinical staff, coordinates patient care activities, develops and implements policies and procedures, and collaborates with physicians, staff, and leadership to achieve organizational goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and supervision to all clinical staff, including pre-op, OR, PACU, and sterile processing. Provides leadership and supervision to all non-clinical staff including but not limited to business office and material management. Ensure nursing services are delivered in accordance with the facility's policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory standards (CMS, AAAHC, Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA). Collaborate with the Administrator and Medical Director to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical policies and procedures. Oversee the hiring, training, development, scheduling, and evaluation of nursing, clinical staff, and non-clinical staff. Monitor clinical performance, ensuring quality assurance, patient safety, and infection control standards are met. Direct staff in providing compassionate, patient-centered care and maintaining excellent patient satisfaction outcomes. Coordinate with physicians and anesthesia providers to ensure efficient surgical scheduling and optimal patient flow. Maintain compliance with credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements for staff. Lead Quality Improvement (QI) and Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives, including risk management and incident reporting. Support the development and management of the nursing department budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost-effective operations. Participate in Governing Body, Medical Executive, and Quality Committee meetings, providing clinical expertise and reports. Act as a resource to staff, patients, and families regarding patient care issues. Ensure readiness for all regulatory inspections, surveys, and accreditation reviews. Qualifications:
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred; Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
Licensure:
Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice required.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive nursing experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role within perioperative or ambulatory surgery settings.
Certifications:
Current BLS certification required. Current ACLS certifications required. If not held at hire, must be obtained within three (3) months of start date. PALS may be required based on the patient population. CNOR, CPAN, and or CAPA Certification preferred.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of AAAHC, Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulations for ambulatory surgery centers. Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Physical/Mental Requirements Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment. Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients for prolonged periods. Strong critical thinking and stress management skills. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist in patient positioning or transfers when necessary.
