This role ensures continuity of clinical operations, stabilizes nursing departments during leadership transitions, and supports high‑quality resident care. This is a full‑time interim position requiring 100% travel to assigned facilities. About the Interim DON Role The Interim Director of Nursing serves as an on‑site clinical leader, overseeing nursing operations, supporting staff development, ensuring regulatory compliance, and helping facilities maintain strong clinical outcomes during periods of transition. Responsibilities Provide temporary leadership and oversight for nursing operations at assigned facilities. Assess departmental needs and implement immediate operational improvements as needed. Support nursing teams through coaching, performance guidance, and daily oversight. Stabilize workflow, staffing practices, and compliance processes during leadership changes. Ensure nursing policies and procedures are followed and updated as needed. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support resident‑centered care. Evaluate clinical data and quality measures to drive short‑term improvement initiatives. Ensure staff maintain required licensure, certifications, and compliance standards. Communicate effectively with facility leadership and regional teams. Travel to facilities as assigned with flexibility for extended stays. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Current, active RN license. Minimum of 2 years of nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing facility. Prior DON or ADON experience preferred. Must be able to travel 100% , including extended assignments, overnights, and weekends as needed. Strong knowledge of SNF regulations, compliance, and best practices. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities. Ability to rapidly assess facility needs and implement effective solutions. Experience with budgeting, staffing oversight, and departmental operations. Proficiency with electronic health records and healthcare technology.
