Job Description

Harsha Behavioral Center is an 81 bed psychiatric hospital in Terre Haute. We are currently hiring for an Assistant Director of Nursing, RN . Ideal candidate would have at least 2 years of leadership experience. Position is for evening shift - choice of 12-8:30 or 3-11:30pm , with on call responsibilities. Previous psychiatric experience preferred. Other duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for the oversight of direct patient care given in the hospital. Formulate and disseminate the nursing mission, philosophy and objectives. Assist the CNO with developing, reviewing, approving and enforcing written departmental policies and procedures. Assist the CNO with selecting nursing staff, completing employee evaluations and resolving problems involving employee disciplinary action. Participate in the development of overall direction and policies for the healthcare organization based on the health needs of the community. Participate in policy decisions that affect patient care services. Determine and communicate resources needed for the clinical departments to carry out their functions and submit written reports as required. Estimate needs for facilities, supplies and equipment. Communicate and collaborate regularly with the hospital's CNO to give input on all matters related to clinical departments. Supervise and develop nurses and all clinical departments. Assist DON in holding regular meetings with clinical staff individually and collectively. Make daily rounds on the patient care areas. Be present on the units to provide leadership. Attend to patient complaints unresolved at lower levels. Evaluate clinical competency of nurses, according to the established Performance Evaluation Process. Shares responsibility for backing up the nursing staff when needed. Ensures nursing staff's awareness and compliance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations. Assists the CNO with any Joint Commission, Federal and/or State preparation and if needed the development of any action plans. Participate in new hire orientation for the new nursing staff and provide ongoing education to current staff.
