The RN Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing in the overall coordination, supervision, and management of nursing services. The RN ADON provides clinical leadership, supports nursing staff, monitors resident care, assists with regulatory compliance, and assumes responsibility for designated nursing functions in the absence of the DON. Experience in long-term care preferred.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Director of Nursing with the following duties: Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily management and supervision of nursing services. Provide clinical leadership and guidance to licensed nurses, CNAs, and other nursing personnel. Assist with staffing, scheduling, assignment of duties, and coverage of nursing units as needed. Provide direct nursing care and assist with nursing staff duties when necessary to maintain safe and adequate resident care. Monitor resident care to ensure compliance with physician orders, care plans, facility policies, and applicable state and federal regulations. Assist with resident assessments, changes in condition, hospital transfers, admissions, readmissions, and discharges. Monitor completion and accuracy of required nursing documentation and clinical records. Review and monitor resident weights, including timely completion, significant weight changes, and appropriate follow-up and notification. Monitor nutritional concerns and collaborate with the dietitian, nursing staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary team regarding significant weight loss or gain. Assist with monitoring falls, wounds, infections, accidents, and other clinical quality indicators. Serve as a designated Infection Prevention and Control resource/coordinator, as assigned by the DON and facility. Monitor infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation precautions, respiratory hygiene, environmental practices, and appropriate transmission-based precautions. Assist with surveillance, identification, documentation, and reporting of suspected or confirmed infections. Assist with infection control audits, staff education, antibiotic stewardship activities, and infection prevention initiatives. Assist with preparation for and response to infection outbreaks, communicable diseases, and public health concerns. Monitor compliance with infection prevention policies and report concerns to the DON and Administrator. Assist with quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) activities and implementation of corrective actions. Participate in interdisciplinary care plan meetings and resident/family conferences as needed. Assist with reviewing incidents, accidents, grievances, and clinical concerns and ensure appropriate follow-up. Monitor medication administration practices and assist with medication-related audits and follow-up. Assist with physician communication and follow-up of new orders and changes in resident condition. Assist with staff orientation, competency assessments, in-service education, and ongoing clinical training. Monitor nursing staff performance and report performance concerns to the DON. Assist with ensuring adequate supplies, equipment, and emergency preparedness on nursing units. Participate in surveys, audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews and assist with development and implementation of plans of correction. Promote resident rights, dignity, privacy, and person-centered care. Maintain confidentiality of resident, employee, and facility information. Assist the DON with investigations and follow-up related to allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, injuries of unknown origin, and other reportable events. Maintain current knowledge of CMS, Louisiana Department of Health, OSHA, infection prevention, and other applicable nursing facility requirements. Assume delegated responsibilities of the DON during periods of absence, within the scope of licensure and facility policy. Perform other nursing and administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Louisiana. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully when personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
