Inpatient Nursing - Med/Surg & ICU Position Overview York Hospital in York, Maine is seeking an experienced Nursing Director or Nurse Manager to provide leadership and operational oversight for its inpatient nursing services, including Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) areas. The Nursing Director/Nurse Manager will be responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, staff leadership, safety, and efficient department operations. This role works closely with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to support exceptional patient and family experiences while maintaining compliance with nursing standards, policies, and regulations. Key Responsibilities Provide ongoing leadership and operational oversight for Med/Surg and ICU nursing units . Maintain 24-hour responsibility, authority, and accountability for patient care activities and unit operations. Lead and support nursing staff to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality patient care. Promote patient safety, quality outcomes, and exceptional patient and family experiences. Manage staffing, scheduling, performance, and other human resource functions. Apply sound financial and resource management principles to nursing operations. Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement policies, procedures, standards, and regulations. Monitor nursing practices and ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements. Support staff development, teamwork, and professional nursing practice. Assist with identifying operational needs and implementing improvements across inpatient nursing services. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Master's degree in Nursing preferred. Current Maine RN license or Compact RN license in good standing. Previous experience in nursing leadership, management, or director-level roles . Experience overseeing inpatient nursing operations , preferably including Med/Surg and ICU . Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams. Specialty and/or nursing leadership certification preferred.
