Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing (DON) with ensuring the provision of quality resident care and compliance with regulatory requirements by establishing and monitoring quality of care standards; implementing quality improvement processes; complying with federal and state regulations. Plans and delivers in-service training to Health Care Center employees and supports organization-wide employee education efforts on clinical topics. Acts as Director of Nursing in her/his absence.
Essential Job Functions:
Supports the achievement of deficiency-free status by monitoring compliance with requirements for Medicare/Medicaid recipients; reporting on compliance/non-compliance issues to DON and QAPI committee; working with the MDS/In-Service Coordinator to ensure that staff are properly oriented and regularly in-serviced; implementing interventions as needed. Ensures quality nursing care by observing/enforcing safe and appropriate nursing procedures; counseling nursing staff and implementing appropriate corrective action; giving on-going feedback about job performance and providing input to DON for annual performance appraisals of nursing staff; recommending and carrying out disciplinary action up to and including termination. Supports the fulfillment of Salemtowne's continuing care philosophy and the maintenance of long-term care certification by adhering to professional standards, organization policies and procedures, compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensures that organization expectations as well as statutory and regulatory requirements are met by reviewing changes in Medicare/Medicaid, and DFS regulations, assessing training needs of Health Care Center staff and working with Clinical Educator to ensure in-services are provided as needed. Ensures compliance of nursing staff with new and current regulations by chart reviews, counseling and rounding. Updates standards of practice, regulation knowledge, QAPI, and infection control knowledge by keeping informed of current and emerging regulatory requirements and clinical approaches; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; and participating in professional organizations. Supports resident and employee wellbeing by working with the infection control preventionist to implement appropriate antibiotic stewardship programming and infection control and prevention guidelines and surveillance. Ensures continuity of care and discharge planning by coordinating the transmission of needed information between providers, nursing staff, medical records, and social services. Attends discharge planning and care plan meetings as needed. Enhances Salemtowne's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Participates in a 24 hour/7day on call/weekend rotation to ensure appropriate RN coverage per regulations and takes assignment in resident care as needed. Completes annual compliance and HIPAA training and exhibits behavior as set forth by the Code of Compliance in the performance of their duties. Adheres to Salemtowne's policies and procedures regarding the compliance program of the organization and is timely in reporting any possible concerns. Follows all local, state, and federal regulations as they pertain to their position. Adheres to the Salemtowne's policies and procedures covering privacy and security in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Promotes and supports the Salemtowne Shines culture and philosophy.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Good critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills. Good planning and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of computers and healthcare software. The ability to work under stressful conditions.
Education and Experience:
B.S.N. preferred. Current Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Three (3) to five (5) years in a long-term care facility.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Normal sitting, pulling/pushing, kneeling, stooping, bending, reaching, talking, and hearing. Standing and sitting for long periods of time. Must be able to quickly respond to medical emergencies.

Work in a clean, well-lighted facility. Possible work hazards include bloodborne pathogens, moving parts, muscular pains, and strong offensive odors.
