Job Description

The Director of Nursing oversees all agency-wide health-related services and leads the nursing department in delivering high-quality care to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role provides education, training, and clinical leadership to ensure effective health care coordination, regulatory compliance, and person-centered support. The Director of Nursing collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, manages department operations, and develops partnerships with the broader healthcare community.
Education and Experience:
Current RN license required. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Demonstrated leadership and clinical expertise in nursing practice.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to pass a drug test and criminal background check. Self-motivated, organized, and effective in leadership roles. Capable of classroom instruction and in-service facilitation. Engaged in continuing professional education and best practices.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or computer work. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed. Ability to respond physically during medical emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise all health-related services and nursing department staff. Ensure continuous quality improvement across departmental and agency health standards. Participate in IDT meetings and consult on complex medical or behavioral issues. Coordinate documentation systems and act as the liaison between nursing and IT for major changes. Promote agency values in the broader medical and professional community. Perform nursing duties when needed and maintain working knowledge of departmental roles. Participate in agency-wide meetings and training initiatives. Oversee recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of nursing staff. Maintain a collaborative, professional team environment. Ensure accurate and compliant medical documentation and reports. Review and update nursing policies and procedures annually. Monitor adherence to health procedures and provide related staff training. Coordinate medical orientation and approve departmental in-services. Ensure CPR certification availability through certified instructors. Provide or coordinate health-related education based on team or individual needs. Serve as a consultant to the Safety Committee, reviewing injury and infection control reports. Serve on special committees and state-wide nursing meetings as required. Coordinate annual flu vaccine clinics for staff and people served. Collaborate with nursing schools to facilitate student rotations in agency homes. Develop and maintain relationships with the medical community.
