Job Description
Using discretion and independent judgment and under the general supervision of the facility CEO, the Director of Nursing (DON) organizes and directs the department of Nursing at the Facility. The DON has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for patient care administration and practice following Joint Commission standards and for the development of a workforce who consistently strives to exceed stated standards. The Director of Nursing develops and maintains Nursing Service objectives and standards of Nursing practice and coordinates Nursing Services with other departments. This position's primary responsibility is supervision of nursing staff, including the authority to recommend to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline employees. This position is required to use independent discretion and judgment with respect to supervisory and management decisions and recommendations. The DON also has oversight of Case Management, Risk Program, Quality, and Medical Staff Credentialing. This position does provide direct patient care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as needed.
