ESSENTIAL DUTIES
: Clinical Oversight Provides and assists in ensuring care is clinically appropriate and is provided with empathy, respect, and a person-centered approach. Maintains clinical expertise and competency as well as demonstrates thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality person-centered care. Ensures documentation of the delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with policy and procedures in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner. Leads clinical support staff in the education of patients and family members and significant others about the patients' diagnosis and their plans of care. Acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary. Interacts with health center personnel and assists providers to ensure optimal patient care and to obtain optimum patient flow and increased patient satisfaction. Identifies and responds promptly to changes in patient's condition and/or clinic event. Coordinates and delegates the timely processing of prescribed medications, and other identified needs of the patient. Participates in collaboration with the health care team in identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing patient and family needs to develop a plan of care. Training & Development In collaboration with the DON, collects and assesses data and information related to clinical education needs and other pertinent situations, including identification of trends, issues and supporting data to determine a comprehensive education program including classroom, clinical experiences and learning technologies. Assesses, plans, develops, implements and evaluates comprehensive education programs to meet the orientation and ongoing competency needs and professional development needs of the clinical staff. Researches, develops, and provides training for proper resident care procedures and use of equipment/products to clinical staff. Ensures all programs meet the Health Services Department and regulatory expectations and standards. Provides consultation to enhance continuing education, professional development opportunities and mentorship opportunities to clinical staff. Develops and delivers/coordinates clinical educational programs to support competence and professional growth of clinical staff. Provides Nursing Department Orientation for new RN's, LPN's and C.N.A.'s. Assesses, plans, develops, teaches, and evaluates clinical programs to meet organization and employee needs. Supervisory Serves as a resource and as a positive, proactive leader for the nursing department. Direct and supervise all nursing staff including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs. Leads and advises all clinical support staff under the direction of the DON and in conjunction with the Administrator and QA Coordinator. Assists DON with responsibility and accountability for delegating, directing and supervising patient care activities. Is responsible for assisting with monitoring of appropriate infection control and employee health programs to include collaboration in training staff and compliance monitoring. Oversee staffing and scheduling to ensure fiscally responsible, adequate staffing. Participates in hiring and performance management. Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement Remains knowledgeable about and assists with tracking quality measures. Works with DON to work towards improving measures where needed. Participates in the evaluation of products, procedures, and patient care standards. Participates in the evaluation of health care and in monitoring health outcomes of patients. Collaborates with Quality Assurance Coordinator regarding nursing documentation audits and implements system changes for the nursing staff as necessary. Regulatory Compliance & Survey Preparedness Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring operations and its programs and physical properties, and initiating changes where required. In collaboration with the DON, leads survey preparedness activities and coordinates survey responses. Financial & Operational Participates in strategic planning, goal setting, budget preparation and priority setting, and program development in collaboration with the Administrator and the Chief Clinical Officer. Responsible for fiscal stewardship, managing departmental staffing, supply expense, and operational costs within the approved budget. Ensures consistency and appropriate standardization related to staffing plans, staffing ratios, skill mix, and use of premium staffing. Responsible for processes related to resident flow and bed management Represents the organization at community and professional events.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing preferred, Master of Science in Nursing strongly preferred. Valid and current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin. Nursing home experience, which has provided opportunities to refine competencies in nursing practice and the application of administrative practices (minimum five years) clinical experience in geriatric and/or rehabilitation services preferred. Must be highly professional in actions and appearance and exhibit a warm, cheerful and caring manner. Must be knowledgeable of diverse State and Federal Regulations that impact on the nursing home industry and stay informed. Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to function in the role of the professional nurse at the bedside to support staffing. Must be able to participate in an on-call rotation and work rare but occasional non-standard hours.
