The EEG Technician will perform routine EEG studies for patients referred by Pediatric Neurology providers, helping deliver high‑quality diagnostic care in a supportive, collaborative neuro team environment. Position Summary:
Performs electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings on patients and analyzes the results; archives data; screens patients; monitors EEG system; prints films and maintains equipment; performes pre-authorizations for EEGs outpatient at UTP and inpatient for the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at MHH.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Responsible for performing EEGs in the outpatient setting. Instructs, prepares, and monitors patients through EEG procedures, performs EEG recordings on patients and analyzes the resulting data. Works with the Faculty regarding the results. Screens patients; obtains and documents pertinent medical history from patients and referring facilities; reviews informed consent form with patients and families. Responsible for daily EEG system upkeep procedures; performs system checks and reports problems to appropriate personnel; maintains and sets up EEG machine. Performs acquisition/collection of EEG recordings on patients. Monitors patient position and activity. Ensures high quality data. Assists with EEG data analysis. Assists with the specialized recording requirements of research EEGs. Includes maintain IRB documentation. Participation and coordinator of audits, mock codes, and other QA procedures. Arrange hospital admissions; obtain authorizations/pre-certifications for procedures. Keeps work area clean and stocked. Stays abreast of current trends of technology and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
None Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Minimum Experience:
1 year of job-related experience required
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive:
This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure. A foreign adversary is a nation listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4.
Residency Requirement:
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
