Job Description

Position Summary :
The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) delivers care to critically ill or injured patients. Patients may be transported between medical facilities or directly from the scene of an accident or illness. The AEMT assists with marketing and public relations activities of the program. The AEMT also may be called upon to assist in an Emergency Department and other hospital units. The AEMT performs other duties as assigned by the EMS Captain, EMS Chief, EMS Administrator, or designated representative. Essential Job Functions Accurately complete patient care reports and required documentation in a timely manner. Delivers excellent patient care according to the standard of care and or protocols approved by the Physician Medical Director, Nebraska State Statue /Rules, and Regulations, and Keith County EMS policy. Performs patient assessment and evaluation using accepted procedures and equipment to determine life threatening emergent, and non-emergent patient needs. Performs interventions on patients based on assessment findings, follows patient care protocols, and maintains contact with monitoring physicians or surrogate. Maintains skills competency as verified by competency check sheets or other evaluation tools as identified. Maintains annual competency in airway and thoracic trauma management as verified by competency check sheet or attendance record. Performs scheduled inventory on the ambulance and supply room, and requisitions supplies as needed per policy. Performs housekeeping duties in and on the ambulance and the ambulance quarters. Interacts with bystanders, law enforcement, fire, EMS, and hospital professionals in a manner which reflects positively of Keith County EMS. Completes all paperwork as required to document patient transports, standbys, canceled calls, etc. according to Keith County EMS and State of Nebraska requirements within 24 hours of the call completion. Participates in helicopter landing zone safety.

Maintains competency in radio communication and usage. Supports and participates in Keith County EMS Performance Improvement process. Maintains competency in skills identified by the EMS Chief as being necessary to function as a team member, as verified by annual skills competency check sheet. Participates in orientation and patient care per Keith County EMS policy. Participates in public relations activities supporting Keith County EMS. Attends medical, nursing, and allied health continuing education programs to remain current as to trends in health care, with emphasis on critical and emergent care of medical and trauma patients as an adjunctive means of promoting Keith County EMS. Assists the EMS Chief with orientation of new team members as requested, following the guidelines and policies of Keith County EMS. Patient care is the number one priority of the AEMT, as it concerns quality, state-of-the-art health care, and service to the patients Keith County EMS is called upon to serve. The AEMT shall ensure that each EMS vehicle is checked daily and supplied with all necessary items for the best possible patient care. The AEMT is to ensure that the Keith County EMS base is in good mechanical working order and tidy. The AEMT is to ensure all EMS vehicles are in good mechanical working order and tidy. The AEMT shall communicate on a timely basis any needs or concerns about staffing, scheduling, physical plant, or vehicle issues to the EMS Captain, EMS Chief, or designated representative. All other duties as assigned. Preferred Talents Knowledge of emergency medical procedures and AEMT clinical protocols. Ability to assess patients and make sound decisions under stressful conditions. Skill in operating EMS equipment and emergency vehicles. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, coworkers, and medical personnel. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely. Strong documentation and basic computer skills. Demonstrated ability to promptly handle consumer/patient complaints/concerns. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Completion of a state-approved Advanced EMT program. 1 year of experience with an Advanced Life Support Service preferred. Valid Nebraska Drivers License. Emergency Vehicle Operators Course Cert. Maintains current Nebraska AEMT and or EMT-I99 and National Registry AEMT Certificate/License, and current BLS, PALS, ACLS, and HAZMAT awareness as verified by current course completion cards or rosters.

This position requires performing strenuous tasks requiring muscular strength and coordination as well as being able to perform CPR for up to 5 minutes without assistance. Working Environment While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee may be exposed for prolonged periods of time to outdoor weather conditions that may vary from extreme heat to extreme cold. This position may be exposed to the possibility of bodily injury from electric shock or mechanical hazard and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in this work environment is typically moderately loud.
Pay:
$19.00 - $25.00 per hour
