POSITION SUMMARY
The Inpatient Detox Technician works with the medical team to provide collaboratively planned medical care for adult men and women in an outpatient detox setting. This Position works to continuously improve the environment of care and to facilitate positive patient change toward recovery and abstinence from addictive substances. Technicians will be able to earn clinical hours and work directly with providers and patients. These are rotating 12 hour shifts. Reliability is paramount. One shift is S,M,T with every other Wednesday. The other shift is Th,F,S, with every other Wednesday. The shifts are 7pm-7am or 7am-7pm. Our shifts are non-negotiable. There is a mandatory meeting every Wednesday at 8:00AM with 3/4 of those meetings being virtual monthly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assesses patient depth of addiction and medical issues Determines appropriate level of care, consulting with the Detox Manager and/or Medical Director as necessary Explains different types of detoxification strategies available Proficiently monitors vital signs and CIWA or COWS on scheduled basis Observes patients for signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior, and/or general physical condition Implements appropriate reporting, referral, or the initiation of emergency procedures Gives quick and accurate reports to the medical provider Documents medical services/patient care per detox unit protocol via the (Electronic Health Record) EHR Proficiently completes lab requisitions and Navigation in online lab portals Completes urine drug screens and pregnancy tests Maintains knowledge of and relays information regarding intensive outpatient, sober living and residential treatment facilities to patients Prioritizes scheduled appointments and unforeseen tasks and events, while mindful of time management Maintains knowledge and compliance with HIPAA policy and procedures Maintains professional etiquette during inter-agency interactions Performs cooking, cleaning, and other assigned household duties as needed within the detox unit
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current NM State License in Emergency Medicine (Paramedic, EMT-I, EMT-B) Current CPR/AED certification Current valid driver's license Two (2) years of relevant experience required Experience in high risk or crisis situation settings Knowledge of crisis intervention and management techniques Ability to apply professional practices and principles in all aspects of patient care Ability to carry out written and oral instructions Ability to exercise prudent judgment in the application of client care Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as needed Current training on HIPAA protocol Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel and internet software A minimum of three years of sobriety, if there is a personal history of substance abuse
DESIRED SKILLS
Familiarity with Addiction Medicine, Social Detox Protocols, COWS Scales, RN Assessments compliant with Addiction Medicine Standards, JACHO standards, recommendations, rules and regulations Ability to perform blood draws Knowledge of ICD-10 coding Experience with Insurance prior authorizations Must be able to be prioritize scheduled appointments and unforeseen tasks and events, while mindful of time management Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Ability to work in a team-oriented environment Must be willing to work a rotating shift schedule, weekends, and holidays Must be willing to cook, clean, and drive
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
