Job Description

Job Summary:
The Certified ER Tech performs under the direct scope of practice as agreed upon by the Emergency Department Medical Director and within the scope of practice defined by the Mississippi State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). The Certified ER Tech is under the direct supervision of the Emergency Department RN and the Emergency Department Medical Director and/or physician designee and accountable to the Patient Care Coordinator. Is responsible for facilitating age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating patients and their families, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The Certified ER Tech participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of health care services and tasks. The role of the Certified ER Tech also includes patient advocacy, teaching, performance improvement, and the oversight of unlicensed personnel.
Performance Expectations:
Communicates and collaborates with the RN and Emergency Department Provider Obtains patient name, date of birth, and nature of visit Obtains vital signs and documents in the electronic medical record Performs blood glucose testing Performs phlebotomy/peripheral venous blood specimen Tracks/maintains equipment/supplies Performs intake and output and documents in the electronic medical record Performs removal of sutures/staples Picks up blood products Obtains specimens Places patient on cardiac monitor Performs EKG Cleans and dresses wounds Assists physician and nurse with procedures Assists RN in application and monitoring of restraints Initiates Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation (RICE) Apply splints to extremities Measures, applies, and teaches assistive devices (crutches, boots, etc.) Performs eye irrigation Performs suctioning (ET, OP, NP) Transports monitored/non-monitored patients Transports intubated patients with RN/RT Inserts peripheral IV (PIV) Remove peripheral IV (PIV) Inserts intraosseous (IO) access Removes intraosseous (IO) access Documents in the Electronic Medical Record Attaches oxygen as ordered Administer approved medications Approved Medications for Administration by ED Tech Ill (Paramedic) Medication Dose Route Acetaminophen 120mg Suppository Acetaminophen 325mg Tablet

Qualifications:
Education/Skills Successful completion of a nationally accredited paramedic program that meets all other state requirements and holds a valid National Registry Certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
Work Experience:
3 years in EMS system with moderate to high volume strongly preferred. Equivalent work related experience in a hospital or in the military maybe considered. Certification/Licensure-DUE
