GED Full Job Description Overview:

Under the supervision of the registered nurse, the orthopedic tech performs specific duties that support patient care. These duties include cast application, DME application, maintaining DME inventory, technical procedures, and direct and indirect patient care activities that are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients and contribute to the efficient operation of the clinic.

1. Under the direction of the registered nurse provides patient care. 1.1 Greets and escorts patients to the exam room. 2. Under the direction of the physician or the registered nurse, performs technical procedures which contribute to safe patient care. 2.1 Removes casts and performs all casting procedures. 3. Performs technical duties which contribute to safe patient care. 3.1 Fabricates and fits braces and splints according to protocol and physician order. 4. Participates in educational activities that contribute to patient care, staff education, and self-development. 4.1 Completes all mandatory training within annual performance period. 5. Effectively contributes to the operational support of the clinic. 5.1 Reports faulty equipment and environmental problems to the nurse manager or designee.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED required.
EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of Orthopedic and/or Ambulatory experience required.
LICENSURE
Orthopedic Technician Certification or Medical Assistant certification preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Must have a knowledge of anatomy and skill in cast application.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Requires good manual dexterity; ability to use power equipment; assist with lifting patients, stand or walk most of the workday, and use good body mechanics.
