Job Summary:
The endoscopy technologist reports to the endoscopy supervisor and/or the director. He/she demonstrates technical abilities in the performance of assigned duties. He/she works well with all members of the medical and nursing staff. Duties include but not limited to: Assists with setting up equipment prior to the endoscopic procedures according to standard instructions. Any problems with equipment or supplies should be reported to the charge nurse, supervisor or the director. Assists with preparing the patient for the procedure, assists the RN in attaching patient to monitors, applying O2 as needed. Assists the physician during endoscopic procedure as directed. Troubleshoots problems with endoscopes. Follows established guidelines for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization of scopes and accessories following endoscopic procedures. Performs daily maintenance checks of endoscopes. Maintains log for scope processing, for cleaning systems and High-Level Disinfection. Assist in maintaining physical and environmental care between and after procedures. Assists with maintenance of stock supplies and equipment. Assists with inventory and ordering as needed. Informs the charge nurse, supervisor, or director of any needed equipment or supplies. Maintains PAR levels for all areas of patient care. Stocks rooms daily. Assist in obtaining carts, films, supplies, equipment, etc. as needed. Shall report to the endoscopy area daily on arrival. Accepts "on call" as directed and will accept direction from the RN assigned call for same rotation. Must be available in-house within 30 minutes when on call.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent, 2 years endoscopy technologist experience preferred. Good communication skills and critical thinking with the ability to problem solve are necessary. Current BLS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.
Physical Demands:
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
