Exercise Specialist 1137 South State Street, Dover, DE 19901 $19.75

  • Part-time An Exercise Specialist provides fundamental services to members participating in EPIC Delaware.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to members' wellness by collaboratively identifying individualized fitness goals and exercises.
  • Instruct and coach members when describing and demonstrating appropriate exercises while always maintaining safety.
Implement manual exercises such as:
assisted exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily living activities.
  • Assist and allow members to develop positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth by honoring their right to choose their activities for the session.
  • Plan and implement movement, social, and nutrition activities for members. Develop these activities in an age appropriate/ability level and with the ability to be inclusive for all.
  • Accurately document member exercise data into appropriate databases. File member documentation for the day when completed.
  • Pursue self-development that enhances job performance.
  • Recognize and abide by the Federal, State, and DDDS requirements.
Experience:
  • Previous experience in personal training, group fitness, or sports coaching is required
  • Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, anatomy, and body mechanics
  • Ability to effectively communicate and motivate individuals of all fitness levels
  • Experience working with adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, including but not limited to tram transfers and exercise/stretching with individuals that use assisted devices for mobility
  • wheelchair, cane, walker, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients
  • Certification or degree in personal training or a related field is a plus
Physical Requirements:
  • Transfer of members up to fully dependent.
  • Must be able to lift or rerack weights up to 55 pounds.
  • Personal experience using common exercise equipment and performing fundamental movement patterns with and without equipment (squat, lunge, push, pull and press).
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including exercise and equipment demonstrations, walking, standing, bending, reaching and lifting.
