An Exercise Physiologist or Specialist directs exercise programs for clients who are recovering from injuries or illnesses, who have disabilities or other chronic conditions, or who want to minimize health risks. Recommends exercise routines or modifications, and monitors patient health. Works in recreational centers, hospitals or other facilities. May provide advice to athletes and people interested in sports training.
The incumbent in this position is responsible for developing, supervising, and adjusting individualized exercise programs for STOF patients referred by the Health Department. These programs are designed to support metabolic health, weight management, prevention of muscle loss, and the establishment of healthy fitness levels and sustainable lifestyle habits that promote overall wellness. The role works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including nutritionists, health educators, and physical therapists to provide integrated care. Patient care is guided by referral needs with a focus on senior patients, individuals with orthopedic or mobility concerns, those requiring weight management support, and homebound clients. Responsibilities include assessing patient fitness levels, interpreting clinical recommendations, and translating them into safe, effective exercise plans that enhance daily habits and support long-term success in weight management and wellness outcomes. The position also assists with and supports community-based and off-site wellness activities for all age groups and travels to all reservations as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, OR advanced certification in fitness training, therapeutic exercise, personal training, or wellness coaching (e.g., ACSM, ACE, NASM) is required. Advanced certification in Senior/Elder wellness is highly preferred. Certification in CPR/First Aid are required. A minimum of five (5) years of experience providing fitness training services for all age groups is required. Prior supervisory or management experience is preferred. Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver's License is a requirement for this job. Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal skills, and communication skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in computer skills utilizing Microsoft Software packages is required. Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays. •Traveling to other reservations is required in this position.
