Hours:
Approximately 36 hours per week, potentially shared by two therapists We are seeking an experienced ABA therapist to work one-to-one with a verbal, active 29-year-old man with autism. Most sessions take place in the community, with occasional work at home or a library. The focus is on independence, functional communication, social relationships, and practical living skills. Activities Activities may include running, swimming, gym visits, fitness classes, volunteering, and support in Ventura College's program for students with disabilities. A ceramics elective and community mobility training, including public bus travel, are also possible. Applicants should enjoy physical activity and be comfortable in an art setting, including handling clay. Experience and qualifications Substantial hands-on ABA experience is required for the primary therapist. Experience with adolescents or adults, naturalistic teaching, task analysis, behavior support, and helping learners use skills across settings is particularly valuable. The therapist must communicate respectfully with the client as an adult and support his dignity, choices, safety, and privacy. The role includes accompanying and supporting the client in locker rooms, changing rooms, and restrooms as needed to build independence with personal routines while respecting his dignity and privacy. Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification is preferred. Candidates with substantial relevant ABA experience who are not currently RBTs will also be considered. Supervision to maintain RBT certification is available. Training and support A BCBA will develop individualized programs and provide ongoing training and supervision. An experienced parent will assist during the transition and gradually step back as the therapist demonstrates competency. Opportunities for collaboration with other providers may also be available. Progress tracking Data will be collected in socially appropriate ways that allow the therapist to remain attentive and engaged with the client, using paper notes or a phone or iPad as appropriate. Data and a progress summary will be entered at the end of each shift. Transportation and employment Initially, a parent will drive to activities. Once rapport and safety procedures are established, the therapist will transport the client. Transportation time is paid, and mileage with the client is reimbursed at $0.72 per mile. A valid driver's license, good driving record, and personal auto insurance are required. Employment and payroll will be handled through an FMS (financial management service), funded by California's Self-Determination Program. Medical insurance may be available depending on hours and eligibility; details are being confirmed.
