Wisdom Within Counseling is seeking a warm, compassionate, and emotionally attuned Child & Family Therapist to join our counseling practice in Niantic, Connecticut. We are looking for a therapist who genuinely enjoys working with children, adolescents, and families and who believes therapy should feel safe, nurturing, creative, and individualized. Our practice takes a holistic approach to mental health and supports children not simply by focusing on symptoms, but by understanding the whole child and the family system around them. About the Position This position is ideal for a therapist who enjoys building meaningful relationships with children and helping them feel comfortable, understood, and accepted. You may work with children experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, school challenges, family transitions, grief, trauma, selective mutism, social difficulties, self-esteem concerns, or other emotional and behavioral challenges. Our approach is child-centered, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and relational. We believe children communicate in many different ways, and therapy does not always have to look like sitting across from an adult and talking. Depending on the child's needs, sessions may incorporate: Play therapy and creative expression Art, drawing, painting, and other expressive activities Mindfulness and breathing exercises Somatic and body-based approaches Trauma-informed therapy Inner-child and parts-work approaches Emotional regulation skills Family therapy and parent support Walk-and-talk or movement-based therapy when clinically appropriate Developmentally appropriate cognitive and behavioral interventions What We Value At Wisdom Within Counseling, we value therapists who are warm, genuine, compassionate, curious, and emotionally present.
