Job Title Psychodrama Therapist / Creative Arts Therapist (Psychodrama) Department Inpatient Behavioral Health / Psychiatry Reports To Clinical Director / Director of Creative Arts Therapies Position Summary The Psychodrama Therapist provides trauma-informed, experiential group and individual therapy services to adult inpatients within an acute psychiatric hospital setting. Using psychodrama, sociometry, role theory, and action-based therapeutic techniques, the therapist supports patients in processing emotional experiences, increasing insight, improving interpersonal functioning, and enhancing coping skills within a multidisciplinary treatment framework. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Facilitate psychodrama and action-based therapy groups for inpatient psychiatric populations, adapting interventions to acuity, diagnosis, and safety needs Conduct individual sessions as clinically indicated to support group work and treatment goals Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and milieu staff as part of the interdisciplinary treatment team Develop, document, and update individualized treatment goals aligned with the patient's overall care plan Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) Utilize trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and ethically sound psychodrama practices Assess patient readiness and safety for participation in experiential and action-oriented interventions Provide psychoeducation related to emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, and recovery Participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences, and clinical supervision Adhere to hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and professional ethical guidelines Support a therapeutic milieu that promotes safety, dignity, and patient engagement Required Qualifications Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Drama Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, or a related mental health field Licensed or license-eligible mental health professional (e.g., LPC, LMFT, LCSW, Psychologist), per state regulations Formal training in Psychodrama (e.g., CP, TEP-in-training, or equivalent coursework and supervised experience) Experience working with acute psychiatric or inpatient populations Knowledge of major psychiatric diagnoses, crisis intervention, and risk assessment Preferred Qualifications Certification or advanced training through the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry, and Group Psychotherapy (ABE) Experience facilitating groups in hospital, residential, or partial hospitalization settings Background in trauma treatment, substance use disorders, or severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) Experience working within multidisciplinary hospital teams Familiarity with EHR systems and clinical documentation standards Core Competencies Strong group facilitation and leadership skills Ability to assess emotional and physical safety during experiential interventions Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Clinical judgment in high-acuity environments Flexibility, creativity, and emotional presence Commitment to ethical practice and professional development Physical & Environmental Requirements Ability to facilitate standing and movement-based therapeutic activities Ability to work in a fast-paced inpatient psychiatric setting May require occasional lifting or physical redirection per hospital policy
