A Family or Behavioral Therapist works with clients who need help dealing with emotional disorders or problems with family and relationships. Addresses client problems in the context of family relationships; helps clients develop ways to recognize and change behavior patterns. Works with individuals, couples or families.
The Intensive Family Preservation (IFP) Therapist will perform a variety of duties and tasks to coordinate and implement services based on a case plan developed and facilitated by a Children and Family Service's Worker or Juvenile Probation Officer. The primary goals of this service are: To stabilize and strengthen families by preventing abuse/neglect of children; and, To assist in providing permanency for children in care and/or enhancing community safety. The IFP Therapist will provide services primarily in the family home and will focus on improvement of the family functioning through the use of trauma informed therapeutic interventions, documented skill acquisition in the areas of parenting, communication, behavior management, and life skills. The IFP Therapist's main focus is to stabilize the home and to preserve permanency of the child(ren). The IFP Therapist will provide structured, goal-oriented, time-limited therapy in the family's natural environment. These families may need assistance recovering from physical, sexual, emotional abuse, and neglect. Other issues, including trauma, substance abuse, mental illness, personality/behavior disorder, developmental disability, dysfunctional family or origin, and current family dysfunction, may be addressed in the course of treating the abuse/neglect. Periodic on-call coverage.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
Master's Degree in social work, psychology or related area is preferred; a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner or Provisionally Licensed Mental Health Practitioner license is required.
