Job Summary The program therapist plays a crucial role in providing compassionate support services to children and families experiencing grief and loss. The program therapist provides individual, short-term, trauma-informed counseling services for children and families in a safe and nurturing environment.
JOB DESCRIPTION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A:
DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES 1.
Provides individual, short term (8-12 sessions) bereavement counseling for children utilizing Traumatic Grief Component Therapy, Multidimensional Grief Therapy, Play Therapy or any other therapeutic interventions appropriate for client. 2. Conducts biopsychosocial and in person assessments. 3. Develops and implements treatment plans for clients based on multiple sources of data. 4. Administers evidence-based clinical assessments to clients to address symptomology. 5. Maintains a caseload of 20 sessions per week. 6. Prepares progress notes and treatment plan in the client's record within 48 hours of service. 7. Maintains all clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and accrediting standards and in accordance with CBCST guidelines. 8. Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness to emergent client needs as needed. 9. Provides on-site crisis intervention for clients and families in acute distress. 10. Adheres to mandatory reporting requirements for child abuse as mandated by Texas law, ensuring the safety and well-being of our clients and in accordance with CBCST guidelines. 11. Adheres to ethical standards as outlined by the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics. 12. Reports any concerns related to client's wellbeing, safety and/or intent to harm self or others as mandated by Texas law and in accordance with CBCST guidelines. 13. Depending on organizational needs and counselor availability, they may provide additional support facilitating grief support groups and grief camps as requested by the Director of Grief Support Services. 14. Attend weekly clinical team meetings. 15. Participates in awareness/education presentations and events as needed. 16. May assist in educating and training staff and/or student counselors
EDUCATION/SKILLS/TRAINNING AND EXPERIENCE 1.
Master's degree in a relevant field (social work/counseling), clinical licensure of LPC-Associate, LPC, LCSW or LMFT with at least two years of post-licensure clinical experience. 2. Bilingual Therapist preferred (Spanish). 3. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. 4. Experience in grief, loss and trauma for children and families. 5. Experience in working with diverse and multicultural populations. 6. Strong organizational skills, critical thinking, and time management skills. 7. Proficient use of computers, internet, Microsoft Office suite of programs, and multi-line phone system. 8. Must be familiar with trauma informed care and prepared to complete Traumatic Grief Component Therapy course when offered by CBCST. Physical Requirements This position involves typical periods of sitting, walking, and clinical typing for documentation, with occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, mobility within the office and the capacity to work with children of all ages. Clear verbal and written communication, along with basic reaching and dexterity skills, are essential for successful performance.
