We foster programs in the areas of basic, translational, mechanistic and population research. Position Summary This position is a fixed-term, clinical faculty genetic counselor position. The primary role of this position is to support the mission of the Neurogenetics and Precision Medicine program (UNC Neurogenetics) in the Department of Neurology and to advance health care through excellence in neurogenetics across the UNC Health system. Teaching and supervision of fellows, residents and students is an expected component of this faculty position. Additional opportunities to engage in ongoing research projects are available. The ideal job applicant will have prior experience in genetics in neurological disorders with adult and/or pediatric patients, and with predictive testing for variable onset disorders. They should be comfortable seeing patients independently and using a variety of practice models including telemedicine. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the genetic counselor is expected to work with different physicians (geneticists and non-geneticists) and advanced practice providers in established clinics as well as contribute to the development of new clinical services. Ability to collaborate within Neurology and with partners in genetics and genomics care across UNC Health is essential. UNC Neurogenetics provides holistic lifespan care focused on the needs of patient and family communities, from very common to nano rare disorders. While specific patient panels for this position may lean more to pediatric vs adult populations, flexibility in patient age range and ability to adapt clinical practice to patient population needs is expected. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Master's degree or higher. Candidate must be board certified or board eligible from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC). Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Preferred candidate will have at least 1 year experience in genetic counseling for patients with neurological and general genetics indications.
