The Genetic Counselor functions in clinical, research, and educational capacities for medical genetics services at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Master's degree from an American Board of Genetic counseling (ABGC) accredited genetic counseling program. Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel. Maintains board eligibility and, once board certified, fulfills CEU requirements. Maintains licensure in the State of New Jersey. Eligible for Certification by American Board of Genetic Counseling. Must pass boards within 2 years of hire. New Jersey Genetic Counselor License must renewed every two years.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
Knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint. Bilingual in Spanish.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
NJ State Genetic Counselor License. For new graduates, a provisional license/work permit letter can be requested from the NJ State Board of Medical Examiners. The holder of a work permit letter who provides genetic counseling shall take the first ABGC Certification examination for which he or she is eligible. If the holder fails the first examination, he or she shall take the next examination for which he or she is eligible. If the holder fails the second examination, he or she shall surrender the work permit letter and shall not provide genetic counseling until he or she passes the examination and obtains a license from the Genetic Counseling Advisory Board Committee.
