The Peer Educator provides essential health and life-skills education to Alaska Native and American Indian youth through evidence-based curricula, group facilitation, and individual peer interactions focused on reproductive health, sexuality, and overall wellness. This position promotes healthy decision-making, fosters community connections, and encourages peer-to-peer learning across multiple service sites. Working in partnership with our people, the Peer Educator helps create opportunities that support the endless potential of Alaska Native and American Indian youth through culturally responsive education and positive peer engagement. This role requires strong communication skills, cultural competency, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality while upholding CITC's mission and values. This is a temporary position with a one-year term.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Co-facilitate group sessions utilizing the established Strengthening Our Youth curriculum on a regularly scheduled basis across multiple service sites. Assist staff in planning, teaching, and evaluating lessons while ensuring culturally appropriate and evidence-based delivery methods. Prepare supplies and classroom materials for each session, ensuring all necessary resources are organized and available. Serve as a supportive peer resource on issues such as reproductive health, sexuality, and other health concerns through one-on-one encounters as they occur naturally. Maintain current knowledge of youth growth and development, sexually transmitted infections, and other social, sexual, and health-related issues. Contribute to developing and updating curriculum based on current research, best practices, and participant feedback to improve program effectiveness. Lead discussions on sensitive health and social issues in group settings with cultural sensitivity, respect, and professional boundaries. Foster strong participant engagement through creative, personalized strategies, including student-inspired projects, curated playlists, and meaningful incentives. Support K-12 programs across multiple departments by assisting with supervision, leading games and activities, and facilitating short educational lessons. Participate in FabLab equipment training to develop skills and support participant learning and engagement. Provide administrative support by assisting with daily tasks and office operations as needed. Travel to various service sites and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program needs require. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all participant information and program activities according to applicable regulations, policies, and procedures. Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.

Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to cultivate positive relationships and support peer learning. Ability to manage conflict thoughtfully and respectfully while maintaining professional boundaries and positive peer relationships. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.

Minimum Qualifications:
Continued employment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check. Must be between the ages of 17 and 24 years old at the time of application. High School Diploma or GED; currently attending high school or college in good academic standing; or enrolled in a GED or High School Completion program. Experience working with Alaska Native and American Indian populations with knowledge of their values, belief systems, and ability to provide culturally competent services.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience or demonstrated interest in youth development, sexual health education, and inclusivity practices. Previous experience in public speaking or group facilitation. Understanding of culturally responsive practices and trauma-informed approaches.
Physical Requirements:

Standing for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner. The ability to wear the appropriate PPE. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. A good sense of spatial awareness. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, dust, and noise levels. Must be able to handle heavy materials and tools.
