2 is seeking a compassionate and motivated Secretary - Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to support our WIC Program and Clinical Community Health Division. This position combines clinical support with client-centered breastfeeding peer counseling to help improve maternal and infant health outcomes in our communities. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting new mothers and is comfortable working in a clinical environment, providing administrative and client-facing services. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one support, education, and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding WIC clients
  • Maintain a caseload and provide ongoing follow-up throughout pregnancy and postpartum
  • Teach breastfeeding classes and support groups, including pumping, milk expression, and storage education
  • Offers breastfeeding solutions and strategies within the scope of practice, referring complex lactation concerns to clinical lactation experts
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and required reporting
  • Promote positive maternal and infant health outcomes aligned with
MDHHS/WIC
guidelines
  • Participate in staff meetings, outreach, training, professional development and community health initiatives
  • knowledgeable of the WIC program and able to triage client questions
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA
  • Assist with data entry, reporting, and program documentation
  • Travel within the service area as needed
What We're Looking For Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer systems
  • Reliable transportation; and valid Michigan driver's license and proof of insurance (if driving for work)
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional non-standard schedules
  • Must meet MDHHS Peer Counselor requirements: o Breastfed at least one child for 6 months or more o Interest and enthusiasm in breastfeeding support o Familiarity with WIC services o Be fluent in the language of the majority of clients they counsel.
o Be a member of the community for whom they serve.
Preferred:
  • Current or former WIC participant preferred
  • One (1) year of practical experience working with children aged 0-5, diverse populations and/or public health Work Environment & Physical Requirements This position primarily works in clinic and office settings, with travel to community locations.
Responsibilities may include:
  • Standing, bending, and moving throughout clinic or home environments
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens (Category A) with full OSHA-compliant protections in place
