Job Description

Overview Join our dedicated team as a Harm Reduction Specialist and play a vital role in promoting health, safety, and well-being within communities affected by substance use. In this dynamic and impactful position, you will develop and implement harm reduction strategies that empower individuals to make safer choices, reduce health risks, and access essential resources. Your work will foster trust, provide education, and support individuals in navigating complex health challenges with compassion and professionalism. This paid role offers an exciting opportunity to make a tangible difference in public health outcomes while advancing your skills in social work, public health, and addiction counseling. Duties Engage with individuals who use substances to provide education on safer use practices and overdose prevention techniques. Distribute harm reduction supplies such as naloxone kits, clean syringes, and other resources to promote safer behaviors. Conduct outreach activities to connect community members with healthcare providers, social services, and addiction treatment programs. Collect data on community needs, service utilization, and program outcomes to inform ongoing harm reduction efforts. Facilitate workshops or informational sessions on topics like addiction recovery, nutrition, and medication management. Maintain accurate records of interactions, supplies distributed, and referrals made while ensuring confidentiality. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and community organizations to coordinate comprehensive support services. Requirements Prior experience or training in nursing, social work, public health, or related fields is highly desirable. Strong understanding of medical terminology, addiction counseling techniques, and Medicare policies. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or vulnerable populations is preferred. Excellent communication skills for public speaking, teaching, motivational interviewing, and community outreach. Ability to collect and analyze data accurately to evaluate program effectiveness. Knowledge of nutrition principles and the impact of substance use on health is a plus. Demonstrated commitment to harm reduction principles with a compassionate approach toward diverse populations.
