The Community Health Educator is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based health education, prevention, and community outreach initiatives that support the mission of Wilkes Youth Life Development (WYLD). This position works directly with youth, families, schools, community organizations, and stakeholders to increase awareness, build protective factors, and promote healthy decision-making related to substance misuse prevention, mental health, resilience, healthy relationships, and overall wellness. The Community Health Educator serves as a visible representative of WYLD throughout Wilkes County by delivering educational programming, coordinating outreach activities, building partnerships, and connecting individuals to community resources. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesYouth Education and Prevention Deliver evidence-based prevention and health education programs within schools, after-school programs, community settings, and youth-serving organizations. Facilitate classroom presentations, workshops, small group discussions, and prevention activities focused on topics such as substance misuse prevention, mental health awareness, healthy relationships, leadership development, resiliency, and life skills. Assist with the implementation of youth leadership initiatives, including Teen Action Council (TAC), prevention campaigns, and community service projects. Build positive relationships with youth and serve as a trusted adult mentor and resource. Community Education and Outreach Coordinate and conduct community education presentations for parents, caregivers, community groups, businesses, faith-based organizations, and local stakeholders. Represent WYLD at community events, health fairs, coalition meetings, conferences, and outreach activities. Develop and distribute educational materials, prevention resources, and public awareness campaigns. Connect community members with local resources and support services related to behavioral health, prevention, and wellness. Support public awareness efforts through community engagement, social media content, and promotional activities. Partnership Development Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, community organizations, healthcare providers, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Participate in local coalitions, committees, and workgroups that align with WYLD's mission and strategic priorities. Assist in identifying community needs and opportunities for new educational initiatives and partnerships. Data Collection and Evaluation Maintain accurate records of educational sessions, outreach contacts, participant engagement, and program activities. Administer surveys, evaluations, and assessments as required by grants and contracts. Assist with data collection, reporting, and outcome measurement to demonstrate program effectiveness. Support grant compliance by ensuring required documentation is completed accurately and on time. Program Support Assist with planning and implementation of special events, conferences, camps, youth programs, and community initiatives. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities. Support additional WYLD programming and organizational activities as assigned.
Qualifications Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Education, Community Health, Prevention Science, or a related field.
Minimum:
Associate's Degree and experience working in community outreach, health education, prevention, youth development, or a related field. Experience working with youth, schools, community coalitions, and prevention programming is strongly preferred. Skills and Knowledge Required Strong presentation and public speaking skills. Ability to effectively engage youth, parents, educators, and community stakeholders. Knowledge of substance misuse prevention, mental health promotion, youth development, and public health principles. Ability to facilitate educational programs in both classroom and community settings. Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team. Experience collecting and managing program data and evaluations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and other technology platforms. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Knowledge of community resources and service systems within North Carolina. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Programs Director, Project Director, or Executive Director Travel and Other Requirements Frequent local travel throughout Wilkes County. Occasional overnight travel for conferences, trainings, and professional development. Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must successfully complete a criminal background check. Must comply with all WYLD policies, including drug-free and tobacco-free workplace policies. Ability to work evenings and weekends for community events, youth activities, and outreach efforts. Hours Per Week 40 Hours Level of Effort 100% Salary and Benefits Salary commensurate with experience and funding availability with a range of $31,200
