About Us The South Jersey AIDS Alliance is a caring, compassionate organization dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS, aiming to improve health outcomes and reduce barriers to care for individuals and families in our community. We provide client-centered services that promote dignity, equity, and well-being, and we are looking for a Community Health Educator- HIV/STI Testing, to join our team! About the Role The Community Health Educator - HIV/STI Testing plays an essential role in delivering confidential HIV and STI testing services, prevention education, and supportive counseling to individuals in our community. This position conducts rapid HIV testing, facilitates STI screening, provides risk-reduction education, and connects individuals to prevention and treatment resources, including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). Through community outreach, education, and compassionate engagement, the Community Health Educator helps increase access to testing and prevention services, reduce stigma, and support individuals at risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. What You'll Do Build trusting, respectful relationships with clients, community partners, and colleagues to support engagement and reduce barriers to care. Provide confidential rapid HIV testing and counseling services in accordance with agency protocols and Department of Health guidelines. Conduct STI screening by collecting specimens including blood draws for syphilis testing, urine samples, and instructing clients on self-collection of swab specimens for pharyngeal, rectal, and genital screening. Provide prevention education and risk-reduction counseling tailored to the needs of individuals accessing testing services. Assess clients for suitability for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and support high-risk HIV-negative clients in initiating and maintaining PrEP when appropriate. Deliver Individual Level Interventions and evidence-based HIV prevention education in accordance with program guidelines. Conduct community outreach to engage individuals at higher risk of HIV/STI infection who may not have previously accessed testing services. Provide referrals and linkage to medical care, behavioral health services, and other supportive resources as needed. Conduct follow-up with clients to support successful linkage to care and continuity of services. Document all services, interactions, and referrals in accordance with agency and program requirements. Prepare and submit required monthly reports. Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel across locations based on program needs. Assist with coverage and support for other agency sites as needed. Attend required meetings and trainings. What We're Looking For Associate's degree in human services, public health, or a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred. 1-3 years of experience in human services, community health, or a related field strongly preferred. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, STIs, and prevention strategies preferred. Experience providing HIV testing, counseling, or health education a plus. Familiarity with local healthcare systems, social services, and community resources preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with diverse populations. Excellent organizational, documentation, and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet program reporting requirements. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office strongly preferred. Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements. Subject to climate-controlled office environments and requires flexibility to adapt to different environments as needed; employee may be substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions while doing street outreach. Potential exposure to biohazard materials consistent with healthcare settings Must follow all agency infection control and safety procedures. Recurring travel will be required, including the operation of the Outreach Van for community-based outreach, and travel servicing for Atlantic County; regular travel required during the first 3-6 months for training. Employees are expected to participate in and assist with at least two South Jersey AIDS Alliance fundraising events each year, including the NJ AIDS Walk.
