General Description:
The first-aid responder provides basic-to-advanced first aid services at school sporting events, team practices, and other events as deemed necessary by school administration.
Essential Responsibilities:
Assesses the health of student athletes when injuries occur Performs Initial concussion screening with referral recommendation for any positive symptoms Performs lifesaving measures for choking, seizures, cardiac arrest, etc. Assesses whether an injury warrants calling 911 Assists sick or injured students, staff or event attendees; performs routine and emergency first aid Communicates with parents as needed for injury Maintains injury/accident records Refers injury concerns to school and central office administration, as appropriate, as well as to additional resources such as school nurse, team physician, Child Protective Services, health department officials or other applicable agencies Completes necessary forms and procedures related to any reported Bloodborne Pathogen exposure and Workers Compensation incidents Secures all medications including controlled substances, as required Coordinates schedule with the Athletic Director and coaches Completes all reporting required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations Responsible for prevention, emergency care, first aid, evaluation to athletes under his/her care using appropriate and established practices Serves as liaison between the team physician, the athlete, the athlete's parents, and coaching staff Maintains records including injury reports, home care instructions, referrals, treatment records, rehabilitation progress notes, and insurance information; and communicates this information to others as need Maintains emergency response equipment and performs inspections as needed Performs related duties as required or assigned
Required Qualifications:
Must hold a valid license through the VA Department of Health as an EMT and/or Registered Nurse
