Job Description
Education Coach & Teen Mentor (Part-Time or Full-Time) We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and engaging Education Coach & Teen Mentor to work one-on-one with a bright high school student who is completing an accredited online high school program while managing ongoing health challenges. This role extends far beyond traditional tutoring. The Education Coach & Teen Mentor will provide structure, executive functioning support, academic guidance, encouragement, and gentle accountability while helping the student build confidence, resilience, and independence. Building a supportive, trusting relationship is central to this role and will create the foundation for meaningful academic progress and gradual re-engagement with activities beyond the home. The student is bright, capable, motivated, and fully independent in personal care. No medical care is required. Instead, this position focuses on helping the student navigate online learning, develop effective study habits, strengthen executive functioning skills, and work toward personal and educational goals. Responsibilities Support the student in completing coursework through an accredited online high school program. Provide executive functioning support by helping organize assignments, prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and maintain consistent academic progress. Assist with high school-level coursework when needed, helping explain concepts, answer questions, and identify additional resources when appropriate. Expertise in every subject is not expected. Help troubleshoot technology and navigate the online learning platform. Balance productivity with appropriate breaks while gently redirecting when breaks become avoidance. Foster connection through conversation, shared interests, and everyday activities. Encourage healthy routines and participation in everyday life. Prepare simple meals together, grocery shop, run occasional errands, take walks with the dog, and participate in community outings. Play board games, card games, or other engaging activities that encourage interaction and connection. Occasionally provide transportation to appointments or activities, as needed. Personal Qualities & Attributes Warm, patient, and emotionally intelligent. Able to build trust while maintaining clear expectations and gentle accountability. Calm, encouraging, and consistent. Creative, flexible, and adaptable as the student's needs evolve. Organized and skilled at providing structure while remaining responsive to the student's pace. Comfortable working independently in a family setting. Highly trustworthy, dependable, and discreet. A strong communicator with excellent judgment. Preferred Background & Experience Relevant experience may include, but is not limited to: Retired teacher or educator Tutor, academic coach, or learning specialist School counselor or educational support professional Youth mentor Social worker or therapist (not providing therapy) Experience supporting adolescents with anxiety, chronic health conditions, school avoidance, or executive functioning challenges Minimum Requirements Experience working with adolescents. Ability to support students completing a high school curriculum across a variety of subjects. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Ability to pass a background check. Hours, schedule, and compensation are flexible and will be based on experience and availability.
