Health Information Management (HIM) Operations Manager101 Truman Medical CenterJob LocationUniversity Health 4 (UH4)Kansas City, MissouriDepartmentCorporate Professional BillingPosition TypeFull timeWork Schedule8:00AM•4:30PMHours Per Week40Job Description The HIM Operations Manager is responsible for the daily operational oversight of Health Information Management functions, including medical record integrity, auditing, and Release of Information (ROI). This role ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, supports organizational information governance initiatives, and promotes accurate, timely, and secure access to protected health information (PHI). The manager leads HIM staff, oversees vendor relationships when applicable, monitors performance metrics, and implements process improvements to ensure regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and high-quality service delivery. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or related field. RHIA or RHIT credential (active and in good standing). Minimum of 5 years of HIM experience, including supervisory or management responsibilities. Demonstrated knowledge of HIM operations, auditing practices, and ROI regulations. Strong understanding of HIPAA, HITECH, CMS, and Joint Commission requirements. Experience working with electronic health records (Epic, Oracle/Cerner, Meditech, or equivalent). Experience with electronic medical records and document imaging; at least 1 years of experience directly related to HIM computer applications and project management. General business skills of planning, time-management and completion of objectives required. Expertise in health information management, revenue cycle compliance, and regulatory coding standards, including MS-DRGs, ICD-10, CPT-4, and HCPCS. Proven ability to lead HIM operations, implement large-scale projects, and drive organizational change. Effective written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports, direct staff and interact effectively. Preferred Master's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field. Experience managing third-party HIM or ROI vendors. Experience in a multi-facility or large health system environment.
