Job Description

Behavioral Healthcare Technician (
BHT Hours:
Sunday - Thursday 11:00pm-7:30am with schedule flexibility including holidays Position Summary The Behavioral Healthcare Technician (BHT) is responsible for ensuring the safety, supervision, and support of clients receiving treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders (dual diagnosis). As an essential member of the treatment team, the BHT serves as a primary support contact for clients, reinforcing therapeutic goals established by clinical staff and maintaining a structured, safe, and supportive treatment environment. This role requires strong observational skills, compassionate client interaction, clear documentation, and strict adherence to regulatory and confidentiality standards. Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Please note that as census goes up and down additional job duties may be assigned Client Supervision & Safety
  • Provide direct care and supervision for dual diagnosis clients.
  • Maintain awareness of client whereabouts at all times and monitor adherence to daily schedules.
  • Escort clients to and from groups, appointments, meals, and activities.
  • Conduct regular room checks and client room searches in accordance with facility policy.
  • Monitor and document client behaviors, mood changes, and safety concerns.
  • Provide crisis intervention support when necessary.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of facilities / disinfect/ report maintenance issues
Overnight Specific Duties:
  • 15- 30 minute room checks
  • Email Correspondence
  • Treat all residents, visitors and staff with courtesy
  • Medication observation/ medication counts/ medication discontinuation
  • Intakes/ Discharges
  • UDS/BA procedures
  • Provide additional assistance to therapists, physicians and clients as requested
  • Filing, organizing, supply inventory
  • Light cleaning/ organizing duties
  • You will work with doctors, clinicians, and specialists in the chemical dependency field
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Maintain the cleanliness of facilities / disinfect/ report maintenance issues Client Interaction & Support
  • Engage in consistent, therapeutic interaction with clients (balanced with administrative duties).
  • Provide emotional support, encouragement, and reinforcement of treatment goals.
  • Treat all residents, visitors, and staff with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Support a welcoming and structured therapeutic environment.
  • Develop and facilitate creative, recovery-oriented activities to promote engagement, community building, and healthy coping skills (e.g., recreational activities, life-skills exercises, wellness activities, team-building exercises). Intake & Discharge Support
  • Assist with client admissions and discharges.
  • Conduct belongings searches upon intake.
  • Review facility rules and expectations with new clients.
  • Ensure all intake documentation and procedures are completed accurately. Medication Monitoring & Medical Support
  • Observe and document medication administration per written protocol.
  • Perform and document medication counts.
  • Monitor, record, and report client vital signs.
  • Provide minor first aid as needed within scope of training.
  • Assist with medication discontinuation procedures per policy. Testing & Monitoring Procedures
  • Conduct Urine Drug Screens (UDS) and Breathalyzer (BA) testing.
  • Collect specimens, perform tests, and accurately document results.
  • Ensure proper chain-of-custody and documentation procedures. Documentation & Communication
  • Complete detailed shift notes documenting observations, incidents, and client progress.
  • Log all relevant communication and important events.
  • Maintain professional email correspondence.
  • Communicate effectively with therapists, physicians, and clinical staff.
  • Provide feedback and observations during treatment team meeting and shift exchanges. Administrative Duties
  • Organize, file, and copy client-related documentation.
  • Track and distribute contraband (e.g., razors, products containing alcohol).
  • Maintain accurate inventory records as required.
  • Support with cleaning/ dishes at meal times
  • Other Duties as Required Team Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, clinicians, and chemical dependency specialists.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings and required trainings.
  • Provide additional assistance to therapists and clinical staff as requested. Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with: o State regulations o JCAHO standards o HIPAA confidentiality requirements
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and client confidentiality at all times. Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Experience working in behavioral health, substance abuse, or mental health setting (preferred)
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
  • 5 years continuous driving experience without moving violations Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic computer and iPhone proficiency

Pay:
$21.00 - $25.00 per hour
