Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) - Harris Regional Full time - Schedule varies

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
Working as a team, respond, treat, and react quickly and calmly to emergency and non-emergency situations in order to provide efficient and immediate, advanced and basic life support, care to the ill and injured. Ensure that during a shift that the assigned unit is properly equipped, stocked, and prepared to respond to a single or multiple patient incidents. Be responsible for schedules and coverage in the event that other personal is not available to cover a shift. Shift work requires a mixture of day, night, twenty-four hour and on call coverage to ensure adequate coverage for the service. The duties described herein are minimum standards and may be modified to meet the changing needs of Harris Health System at any time.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job. However, an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.Education:
High School Diploma required. Associate's degree or higher is preferred. Current North Carolina Advanced EMT certificationAHA, ARC, ASHI/HSI CPR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The amount of physical effort remains fluid throughout the shift, but many excursions is consistent. The fixed demands of the job are lifting, securing, and transporting patients to the unit and hospital. To accomplish task an employee is required to twist, bend, walk, run, kneel, and lift. These functions are often accomplished in adverse weather conditions. In addition, this individual must often deal with obese and/or uncooperative in their actions. The duration and weight is dependent on the situation, but employees should be able to lift 100 lbs. and duration of events often lasting greater than one hour per call.WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The Emergency Medical Service is staff seven (7) days a week, 52 weeks per year. An assigned shift will schedule staff members to cover days and evening rotations as part of their employment. The work involves approximately 70% of the shift in the field (Harris EMS area of operation including patient's houses, infrastructures, hospitals, and or long-term care facilities) were there is a potential risk of injury. During this time the employee is exposed to the environment, blood borne disease exposures, hazardous material situations, and the possible hostile situation. Approximately 20% of the workday is comprised of stationing at an ambulance base were the risk of injury or exposure are reduced. The remaining 10% of the shift are community outreach programs, educational demonstrations, or classroom instruction We employ and provide care to people from all walks of life.
