Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Emergency Shift Lead Technician to join our veterinary team. In this vital role, the ER shift lead technician will oversee and delegate patient care, manage work flow, handle emergencies, ensures policy compliance, while providing direct patient care, acting as the central point for communication and problem-solving during their shift. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead high‑acuity patient care, elevate team performance, and directly shape the quality and efficiency of our emergency service.
Responsibilities Monitors outpatient flow:
triages being seen in a timely manner, color coded, vitals and history entered, and patient rechecks entered according to triage color, and tech assigned to every patient. Making sure patients are labeled, cage, and collar, verify consistent check ins with owners and re-assessment of patients. Monitors inpatient load and acuity. Verifying patients are being divided up fairly and schedules are accurate. Most critical cases assigned to the most experienced technician etc. Schedules are divided evenly and cages labeled with schedule cards. Will be the go-to person on shift for overseeing that procedures are monitored by appropriate technicians or with appropriate oversight from doctors. Delegating these assignments appropriately. Re-assigns duties based on hospital flow, needs, and staffing on an ever changing basis. Verifies policy and procedure, knows how to find or who to contact to answer questions. Coordinates with leadership when call outs, or increased patient load to get coverage. Coordinates with the doctor on shift when leadership back up needs to be called. Ensures "End of shift" duties are being completed, and passed on to incoming shifts. This will happen at the time of patient care rounds for inpatient technicians. Ensures outpatient technicians transfer their patients to incoming shift and that the patients are re-assigned in instinct. While verifying 'End of shift" duties are complete or passed on. Serve as a communication bridge between staff and hospital leadership. Assistants and attendants will give their daily check off sheet to the charge technician, and they will verify appropriate work was done, delegating any additional unfinished tasks to the next shift. Delegates downtime duties. Enforces all policies (ex cell phone, smoke break policy, etc) and alerts leadership to non-compliance. Skills The candidate must have the following qualifications to be considered for this position at Mosaic Animal emergency and specialty hospital. Has completed level 2 technician training check off , and is considered a level 2 technician at Mosaic, or is on the path towards Level 2 and is expected to complete this Level by 90 days of hire. (Mosaic Level 2 technician demonstrates proficiency in advanced patient assessment, triage, anesthesia monitoring, emergency and critical care procedures, laboratory diagnostics, medication administration, blood product therapy, advanced nursing care, and stabilization and management of various disease processes under the direction of the ER Veterinarian). Is knowledgeable of all policies and procedures at Mosaic, routinely adheres to policy, while teaching and holding others accountable for said policies. Is comfortable and can easily oversee inpatient and outpatient duties. Willing to assist with training, and coaching teammates on procedures and critical patients. Exhibits clear, empathetic communications with all staff, co-workers, and clients. Strong critical thinking skills able to quickly and efficiently address immediate challenges. Manages work flow according to policy and SOP's from triage to hospitalized patient schedules. Delegating tasks as necessary to keep the flow of the hospital running smoothly.
