This role conducts interviews with parents, collects required data, and submits birth information through the Automated Vital Statistics System (AVSS). The technician also facilitates related programs such as the Paternity Opportunity Program (POP), Newborn Screening, Newborn Social Security Number Assignment, WIC, and supports data quality efforts in alignment with CMQCC standards. Additional duties include retrieving discharged records from nursing units, scanning Newborn Assessment Records for continuity of care, and assisting with monitoring transcription reports held in QA. The technician ensures compliance with all regulatory standards, maintains confidentiality of patient information, and collaborates closely with clinical staff and external agencies to support the hospital's birth documentation and public health reporting obligations.
Education :
High School diploma or GED preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Obtain an HFMA Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) Certification within 9 months of start date.
Experience :
Three or more years working in an HIM department in an acute care hospital required. One year experience with birth registration preferred.
Skills :
Ability to manage multiple tasks, demonstrate organization time management skills. Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word. General office and computer skills. Previous experience working with AVSS preferred.
Hours of Work:
Day shift, Monday - Sunday, as assigned based on business need.

Compensation Structure NorthBay Health uses a structured compensation framework. Staff-level positions use a step-based system (Steps 1-5) based on years of directly related experience, with Step 5 representing 20 or more years of experience in the role. Manager level and above positions are paid a fixed annual base salary and are eligible for a variable incentive compensation plan.
