Job Summary The Emergency Department Technician provides direct and indirect patient care in support of nursing and provider staff in the Emergency Department. Responsibilities include monitoring cardiac rhythms, collecting specimens, assisting with procedures, and performing clerical duties as needed. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized care environment while adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines. Essential Functions Provides direct patient care including vital signs monitoring, ambulation, and basic hygiene care under the supervision of the RN or provider. Monitors cardiac rhythms and reports any abnormalities to the nursing staff. Assists with Point of Care Testing (Accu-Checks), phlebotomy, and specimen collection as directed. Performs catheter insertion and removal as directed by RN (Paramedic Only). Assists with patient transport and ensures patient safety during transport. Completes accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities. Demonstrates proficiency with downtime procedures and required documentation. Responds to patient call systems in a timely manner and assists with patient needs. Supports unit operations by maintaining adequate stock of supplies and assisting with inventory control. Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Proficient in basic computer applications for documentation purposes. Knowledge of infection control practices and safety protocols. EKG Competency required within timeframe required by facility policy O2 Assessment may be required within timeframe required by facility policy Qualifications Education High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role.
