Job Description
The Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative, clerical, and clinical duties to ensure efficient operation of the outpatient clinic. This position provides a positive patient experience through professional reception, accurate documentation, assistance with clinical procedures, and support of patient flow between administrative and medical staff. High School Diploma or GED Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred At least one year of medical office or patient care experience preferred Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures Current BLS certification required or to be obtained within 90 days of hire Basic computer and electronic health record (EHR) skills The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and be able to push/pull up to 25 pounds. The employee must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day. 1. Greets and directs patients, visitors, and phone calls while providing excellent customer service. 2. Schedules appointments, answers clinic phones, and relays messages accurately. 3. Registers patients, updates demographic and insurance details, and assists with necessary paperwork. 4. Accepts and tracks patient payments, processes transactions, and adheres to hospital policy for recordkeeping. 5. Reviews and distributes incoming/outgoing mail, manages faxes, and supports office correspondence and document assembly. 6. Maintains and orders office and clinical supplies; keeps workspace and common areas organized. 7. Assists providers with patient intake and visit preparation, including obtaining vital signs, documenting information, and preparing exam rooms. 8. Supports clinical procedures such as specimen collection, basic testing, and cleaning/disinfection per protocol. 9. Utilizes electronic systems for registration, scheduling, clinical documentation, and payments. 10. Communicates courteously and professionally with patients, providers, and staff both in person and by phone. 11. Ensures compliance with HIPAA, privacy, and confidentiality regulations. 12. Coordinates patient flow and assists with both administrative and clinical tasks to support smooth clinic operations. 13. Demonstrates professionalism, confidentiality, neat appearance, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. 14. Behaves and dresses in accordance with the facility's Standards of Behavior. 15. Performs other duties as assigned.
