University Hospital | Operating Room Scope of Position The Lead Certified Surgical Technologist is an essential member of the perioperative team, working collaboratively to ensure the success of patient procedures. The Lead Certified Surgical Technologist assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating/procedural room, ensuring the availability of necessary instruments and supplies, and supporting the surgical team throughout the procedure, also serving as a departmental resource. The Lead Certified Surgical Technologist performs their specific roles and duties with high standards, to create an atmosphere that maximizes patient care outcomes, improving customer service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. The Lead Certified Surgical Technologist reflects a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm and mutual respect. Position Summary The Lead Certified Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure and also functions as a department clinical resourse. The Lead Certified Surgical Technologist understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the surgeon's needs. The Lead Certified Surgical Technologist has expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques and is constantly on vigil for maintaining the sterile field. Based on departmental needs, the Lead Certified Surgical Technologist may be assigned rotating shifts and on-call duties. Minimum Qualifications High School graduate or equivalent and must have completed formal Surgical Technology Training Program or the equivalent. Must hold CST or TS-C certification. A minimum of 2 years of surgical technology experience required.
