Job Description

SHR Talent is partnering with a healthcare client in Kissimmee, FL in its search for a Director of Surgical Services. This permanent, onsite leadership opportunity is ideal for an experienced perioperative nursing leader who is passionate about driving clinical excellence, operational performance, and exceptional patient outcomes within a high-acuity surgical environment. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director will oversee all aspects of Surgical Services while leading a multidisciplinary team in a Level II Trauma Center performing approximately 650-700 surgical cases each month. The Director of Surgical Services will provide strategic and operational leadership for a comprehensive perioperative services department that includes 13 Operating Rooms, 2 Cardiovascular Operating Rooms (CVORs), Sterile Processing (SPD), Pre-Op/Post-Op, and Endoscopy. Surgical specialties include Cardiovascular, Trauma, Orthopedics & Spine, General Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, and Vascular, supported by advanced robotic technology including Mako and three Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical systems. This leader will be responsible for fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, quality, patient safety, and continuous improvement while ensuring efficient department operations and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is a proven healthcare leader with recent acute care Surgical Services leadership experience, strong financial and operational acumen, and the ability to build high-performing teams. This individual will partner closely with physicians, executive leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, enhance operational efficiency, expand surgical service lines, and support the organization's continued growth. Responsibilities:
Provide strategic and operational leadership for Surgical Services, including the Operating Room, CVOR, Sterile Processing (SPD), Pre-Op/Post-Op, and Endoscopy departments, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care Lead, mentor, and develop department leadership and clinical teams by fostering employee engagement, accountability, professional development, and a culture of collaboration across approximately 80-90 FTEs and four direct-report managers Drive quality improvement initiatives by implementing evidence-based clinical practices, ensuring regulatory and accreditation compliance, optimizing patient safety, improving patient throughput, and enhancing patient satisfaction Manage departmental financial performance through budgeting, forecasting, labor management, productivity analysis, capital planning, and cost containment while maintaining high-quality patient care Partner with physicians, executive leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to strengthen existing surgical programs, develop new service lines, improve operational performance, and support strategic growth initiatives across the hospital
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field preferred Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida or ability to obtain Florida licensure prior to employment Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Director of Surgical Services within an acute care hospital required; candidates with several years of progressive Operating Room Manager experience in a large trauma center will also be considered Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing perioperative services, including Operating Room, Surgical Services, Sterile Processing, Pre-Op/Post-Op, and/or Endoscopy within an acute care environment Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing operations, quality improvement, Joint Commission and regulatory standards, budgeting, staffing, physician relations, patient throughput, and performance improvement Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex surgical operations, improve clinical outcomes, and drive employee engagement in a fast-paced healthcare setting Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, financial management, critical thinking, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence change across all levels of the organization #IND123
