As a Health Unit Coordinator, you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless patient flow, accurate documentation, and effective communication among care teams—helping deliver timely, high-quality care to our community.Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and chart management to support efficient Emergency Department operations Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records (EMR), including data entry, documentation, and chart audits Facilitate communication between physicians, nurses, patients, families, and ancillary departments Prepare and manage patient documentation, including forms, medical records, and transfer/discharge paperwork Support staffing coordination, scheduling updates, and timekeeping functions as assigned Provide front-line customer service by assisting patients and visitors, managing calls, and responding to inquiriesQualifications:

General:
Two (2) years of clerical or administrative experience involving office procedures, communication, and recordkeeping For the Health Unit Coordinator II, in addition to the above, one (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting working with medical records, physician/nursing orders, and/or EMR systemsSubstitution:
An Associates or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for all of the required General Experience.Knowledge & Skills:
Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic medical record systems Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel) Company Description As the Big Island's leading providers of inpatient and outpatient care, the East Hawaii Region of Hawai`i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), consisting of Hilo Benioff Medical Center, Honoka'a Hospital, Ka′u Hospital, Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home, East Hawaii Medical Group and East Hawaii Health Pharmacy, delivers a full range of services and programs.
