90-100% of hours worked on-site We are seeking a Patient Service Coordinator who will offer friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every patient to ensure that the patient has a positive experience while at Johns Hopkins at GBMC. Maintain accurate information on each patient to facilitate the patient encounter. Use automated systems to expedite patient scheduling, pre-registration, check-in, and check-out. Work with others in a team environment. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Schedules patients for laboratory tests, medical examinations, and consultations. Relays information to patients regarding preparation for laboratory tests and examinations. Coordinates visits either within the department or between several departments. Telephones and interviews patients and/or family members to obtain accurate pre-registration information and to confirm appointments. Prints and mails directions, maps, fee schedules, and department specific information to patients. Sends medical questionnaire forms to patients to obtain missing information. Verifies and enters pre-registration and insurance information into the computer system and prepares daily printed schedules for designated areas. Obtain and /or verifies patient's demographic data by phone or in person. Confirms appointments by telephone and/or mail. Fills vacancies due to cancellations. Obtains pre-certifications as required by patients' health care insurers or managed care providers. Registers patients for clinical appointments using computerized database. Assists patients or family members with completion of medical insurance forms. Informs patients of costs or care being provided, and guides them to appropriate resources for further information, guidance, or assistance. Arranges or assists in arranging patient transportation. Answers phones and provides routine information to callers. Handles administrative tasks of admission when a patient has to be admitted to the hospital. Reviews patient charges and extracts chargeable items. Collects time of service payments, issues receipts, and prepares cash settlement records. Assigns diagnostic and procedures codes to charge vouchers for computer input. Enters patient charges into computer system. Discusses patient charges, if appropriate, with patients and/or patients' families. Evaluates eligibility for alternative sources of financing such as Medicaid, Patient Care Funds, loans or other payment sources. Refers patient to appropriate office and ensures application for funds has been made. Prepares patient's statement of charges and reviews with patient. Assists with basic insurance and third-party queries and explains payment policies. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or graduation equivalent. One year work experience in customer service. Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
