Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Health Unit Coordinator collaborates with the clinical team to coordinate all aspects of patient care and transition out of the hospital setting. The Health Unit Coordinator is responsible for performing duties related to patient admission, transfer, and discharge, communication with patients, guests and staff, electronic health records maintenance, and other duties of a clerical nature.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: Updates ACD manager (or designee) of any changes that affect the department operation or staff scheduling such as: any cancelations, add on cases, mechanical failure, physician PTO etc. Performs scheduling tasks and looks for and retrieves chart information (from RHC, GBO, & Hospital medical records) in EMR. Works together with Imaging, RHC, GBO, and Surgery to maintain, coordinate and update any patient scheduling in order to keep all departments working as efficient as possible. Assists PA/CS, and Pharmacy as able of upcoming & scheduled infusions/injections. Informs the RN &/or Pharmacy of medication orders, changes, or cancelations. Prepares patient charts and utilizes the Grapevine forms for the latest & most updated material. This includes any weeknight or weekend charts needed for ACD patients. Performs clerical functions for physicians within the Health Unit Coordinators scope of practice. Ability to follow direction, prioritize workload and patient schedule. Understands and complies with HIPAA policies and respects patient privacy. Recognizes the importance and follows proper Chain of Command. Demonstrates appropriateness in meeting objectives in age-specifics. Perform other duties as assigned. High School Graduate or equivalent. Health Unit Coordinator Certification required or obtained upon hire. CPR Certified Advanced understanding of medical terminology. Must be organized, ability to prioritize & work independently. Ability to keep complex appointment schedules & prepare accurate lists from such schedules. Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with all customers (doctors, referral sources, other employees, patients etc.). Excellent customer service skills, telephone etiquette, tactful & courteous. Computer experience (CERNER) & programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.) with a comprehensive knowledge of office equipment. Advanced skills in Clerical duties (filing, data collection & recording). Accurately reads & transcribes physician handwriting.
