- Neurosurgery The Vice President of Neurosciences
- Neurosurgery will be accountable for expanding neurosurgical services for the member institutions of RWJBarnabas Health, providing strategic oversight for the RWJBH/Rutgers Department of Neurosurgery faculty practices, and integrating the overall neurosurgical platform for RWJBH/Rutgers. The VP, Neurosciences
- Neurosurgery, will work collaboratively with the VP, Neurosciences
- Neurology to broadly advance Neurosciences across the entire integrated academic health system of RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers.
The Vice President, Neurosciences reports to Michael Prilutsky, President and CEO, RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group, and to Dr. Robert Gross, Chair, Department of Neurosurgery, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School & Jersey Medical School and Senior Vice President of Neurosurgical Services, RWJBarnabas Health As Vice President of Neurosciences
- Neurosurgery, a typical day might include the following: Advance the system-wide Neurosurgery growth strategy by reviewing market opportunities, service line performance, access metrics, and competitive trends, while identifying opportunities to expand programs, sites, and clinical capabilities.
Partner with neurosurgical physician leaders, hospital executives, and Rutgers leadership to align priorities, resolve operational barriers, and drive integration across RWJBH member institutions and Rutgers faculty practices.
Review financial and operational performance across Neurosurgery, including revenue, margin, volumes, physician productivity, staffing, capital needs, and key performance indicators, and develop action plans where performance is off target.
Lead strategic planning and growth initiatives such as new clinical programs, technology and equipment investments, physician recruitment, APP expansion, market development, and initiatives designed to increase patient access and market share.
Strengthen integration between RWJBH and Rutgers Neurosurgery by standardizing clinical and operational practices, developing system-wide protocols and performance goals, and ensuring alignment across faculty practices and hospital-based services.
Focus on quality, patient experience, and clinical outcomes by monitoring balanced scorecard metrics, Press Ganey results, quality data, and evidence-based standards, while partnering with clinical leaders to identify and implement improvements.
Build relationships with referring physicians and key external stakeholders to strengthen referral networks, improve care coordination, expand second-opinion and concierge services, and enhance the Neurosurgery brand throughout the region and nationally.
Drive the future of the Neurosurgery platform by evaluating innovative care models, telehealth capabilities, marketing and branding opportunities, academic programs, and emerging technologies while ensuring regulatory, financial, and operational sustainability. This role might be for you if: You are a proven healthcare executive with 10+ years of progressive leadership experience within a complex hospital system or academic medical center.
You have successfully built or led a system-wide service line, with a track record of translating strategy into measurable growth, improved performance, and stronger market position.
You thrive in a highly matrixed environment and know how to build alignment among physicians, academic leaders, hospital executives, and operational stakeholders with competing priorities.
You bring strong financial and operational acumen, with experience managing budgets, margins, capital investments, physician productivity, and the operational performance of complex clinical services.
You are energized by growth and innovation, with the ability to identify new clinical programs, technologies, markets, partnerships, and care models that expand access and improve patient outcomes.
You have experience working within an academic medical center or medical school structure and understand the unique relationship between clinical care, physician practices, education, research, and academic medicine.
You are a charismatic, collaborative leader who can create a compelling vision, build physician engagement, and inspire teams across organizational boundaries to adopt and execute a shared strategy.
You are passionate about building a nationally recognized Neurosurgery and Neurosciences platform, with the strategic mindset to strengthen clinical quality, patient experience, physician alignment, academic reputation, and market leadership. To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a master's degree or equivalent experience and at least 10 years of progressive leadership experience within a hospital, health system, or academic medical center environment. The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated success developing and leading a system-wide service line within a complex, multi-site organization, along with experience working within an academic medical or medical school structure. You should possess strong strategic, clinical, operational, financial, and administrative expertise, with a proven ability to drive growth, manage budgets and performance, develop strategic partnerships, and navigate complex matrixed organizations. A visionary and collaborative leadership style, strong business acumen, and the ability to build alignment among physicians, academic leaders, and health system executives are essential.
