This position oversees staff performance, recruitment, orientation, competency assessment, professional development, quality improvement initiatives, patient safety, regulatory compliance, fiscal stewardship, and daily department operations. Working collaboratively with physicians, pharmacy, Infection Prevention, and organizational leadership, the Manager ensures efficient workflows, exceptional clinical outcomes, and an outstanding experience for patients and caregivers. Principal Responsibilities Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Outpatient Infusion department while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Direct the daily operations of the infusion center, including patient flow, staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and departmental productivity. Recruit, interview, hire, mentor, coach, and evaluate clinical staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth. Lead orientation, competency assessment, ongoing education, and performance development programs for clinical team members. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacy, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize clinical workflows and improve patient outcomes. Oversee the safe administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic therapies, blood products, and other infusion treatments while ensuring adherence to evidence-based practice and safety standards. Develop, implement, and monitor quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, operational efficiency, patient satisfaction, and clinical excellence. Monitor departmental quality metrics and patient outcome data, using findings to implement process improvements and achieve performance goals. Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, Environment of Care (EOC), Infection Prevention, OSHA, state and federal regulations, and organizational policies. Develop, review, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and clinical practice guidelines to support regulatory compliance and best practices. Partner with pharmacy leadership to ensure safe medication management, chemotherapy handling, and compliance with infusion protocols. Promote a culture of patient safety through oversight of infection prevention practices, medication safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory readiness. Manage departmental budgets, operating expenses, supply utilization, and capital equipment planning while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Analyze staffing needs, productivity, and operational performance to maximize efficiency and support organizational goals. Lead departmental initiatives that improve patient access, reduce wait times, and enhance the overall patient experience. Foster strong relationships with physicians, clinical departments, and organizational leadership to support program growth and strategic initiatives. Communicate effectively across interdisciplinary teams, resolve operational challenges, and promote a positive, inclusive work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned. Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. License & Certifications Current New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certification required. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) certification preferred. Experience Minimum of five years of progressive nursing experience required. Recent oncology and/or hematology nursing experience is required. Previous leadership experience as a Charge Nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, or similar healthcare leadership role preferred. Experience managing or leading an outpatient infusion center, oncology practice, ambulatory infusion department, or related specialty strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with quality improvement, regulatory compliance, staff development, and operational management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of outpatient oncology and hematology infusion services, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic therapies, blood product administration, and supportive care. Strong understanding of oncology nursing standards, infusion safety practices, and regulatory requirements. Proven leadership, coaching, conflict resolution, and team-building skills. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities. Experience with budgeting, productivity management, workforce planning, and performance improvement. Ability to analyze operational and clinical data to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
