Job Description

Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Coordinator to join our orthopedic medical practice. The DME Coordinator will be responsible for managing the procurement, distribution, and inventory control of durable medical equipment, ensuring that patients receive the necessary equipment for their orthopedic care. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers, patients, and equipment vendors.
Responsibilities:
DME Procurement and Ordering:
Coordinate the procurement of durable medical equipment, including braces, splints, orthotics, and other assistive devices, as prescribed by physicians. Place orders for DME supplies and ensure timely delivery to meet patient needs.
Patient Assessment and Education:
Educate patients and caregivers on the proper use, maintenance, and safety precautions of DME. Provide instructions on fitting and adjusting equipment to ensure proper function and comfort.
Documentation and Insurance Verification:
Obtain necessary documentation, such as prescriptions and insurance authorization, for DME orders. Verify insurance coverage and benefits for DME supplies and communicate with insurance companies to obtain pre-authorization as needed. Ensure accurate and complete documentation in electronic health records (EHR) and billing systems.
Inventory Management:
Maintain an organized inventory of DME supplies, including tracking quantities, expiration dates, and usage. Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies. Monitor stock levels and reorder supplies as necessary to prevent shortages or overstocking. Coordination with
Healthcare Team:
Collaborate with orthopedic physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate DME services as part of patient care plans. Communicate with clinical staff to ensure seamless integration of DME into treatment protocols and follow-up care.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry best practices related to DME services. Perform quality checks on DME equipment to verify functionality, safety, and cleanliness.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred. Previous experience in medical equipment coordination, preferably in an orthopedic or healthcare setting. Knowledge of durable medical equipment, orthotics, and assistive devices commonly used in orthopedic care. Familiarity with insurance verification and billing processes related to DME services. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively educate patients and collaborate with healthcare providers. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and inventory management software.
