Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, enrolling more than 26,000 students at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood, and Riverhead, as well as its Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. Established in 1959, the college offers a wide array of transfer-oriented associate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences; business; communications and the arts; computing and cybersecurity; health sciences; and many other areas. Position Summary The Mental Health Coordinator is a member of the team of licensed mental health professionals dedicated to supporting the mental health of our students and their overall success. As a member of Mental Health & Wellness Services (MHWS), the coordinator is responsible for providing mental health support to our students through a variety of modalities including individual mental health counseling, group counseling, outreach and prevention programs, and more. MHWS is part of the college's Student Affairs division and the coordinator will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the division in creative ways to facilitate student success and help foster an inclusive and engaged campus community. The Mental Health Coordinator reports to the College Director of Mental Health & Wellness Services. This position will be based at the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood, with the understanding that coordinators will be expected to work from any of the college's three campuses based upon need. This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the college.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide culturally informed short-term individual mental health counseling to students. Consult with faculty and staff regarding students of concern with potential mental health issues. Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of psychoeducational workshops, mental health awareness events and other outreach programs for a diverse population using an equity and inclusion framework. May serve as a member of campus and college committees meeting about students of concern. Develop external referral sources and direct students to off-campus agencies and mental health practitioners. Evaluate and assess students in crisis and provide appropriate intervention. Create and present culturally informed workshops for students on relevant mental health topics. Provide training to others in the college community regarding dealing with students experiencing mental health issues. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all clinical interactions and consultations in our electronic medical records system. Perform case management and administrative responsibilities in support of clinical work. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required :

Possess a minimum of a Master's Degree in social work or mental health counseling. Full NYS licensure as a psychologist, clinical social worker, or mental health counselor. At least one year of full-time experience providing direct psychological services and or mental health counseling services to students or the general public.

Preferred:

Ph.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Experience providing direct psychological services to students in a college setting. Experience using an electronic medical records system. Commitment to working with diverse and historically marginalized populations, as demonstrated by past experience. Bilingual Spanish/English speaking.
