Advance Practice Providers Job Description:
The Manger of Advance Practice Providers (APPs) serves as a clinical and administrative leader for APPs, including Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Physician Assistants (PAs), within the OU Health system. This role combines direct patient care with leadership responsibilities to support high-quality clinical practice, regulatory compliance, and professional development of APP team members. The Manager of APPs collaborates with system leadership, physician leaders, operational managers, and interprofessional colleagues to advance onboarding, credentialing, transition-to-practice programs, and strategic initiatives that enhance APPs integration and performance across assigned service lines. In addition to leadership duties, the Manager of APPs provides patient care within their scope of practice as defined by state law, licensure, and institutional policy, working collaboratively in inpatient and/or outpatient settings to deliver comprehensive care and promote OU Health's mission of excellence in education, research, and clinical outcomes. Leadership & Operational Support:
Collaborate with OAP, physician teams, and operational/business leaders to contribute to the strategic vision for assigned specialty areas. Support key strategic initiatives and system-wide projects aimed at advancing APRN and PA practice, education, and research. Serve as a resource for APP-related questions and issues for health system partners. Facilitate hiring and orientation of new APPs in collaboration with business and medical leaders, and applicable unit APP leadership. Ensure completion of
FPPE/OPPE
requirements, including proctoring, and provide additional learning opportunities as needed. Contribute to performance evaluations and monitor work expectations in collaboration with physician teams to align with OU Health policies. Oversee time, attendance, and scheduling in partnership with practice teams. Support continuing education and CME opportunities for APP team members, including CME approval and tracking. Stay current on national and regional trends impacting APP roles and health care delivery systems. Participate in interprofessional partnerships to promote high-quality, patient-centered care.
Clinical Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive care within scope of practice as defined by state law, licensure, and institutional policy in inpatient and/or outpatient settings. Perform accurate and complete history and physical assessments; order and interpret diagnostic studies; develop and implement care plans. Deliver patient and family-centered care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions. Facilitate consistent, coordinated care and clear communication among all members of the healthcare team. Incorporate patients and families in care planning and treatment decisions across settings. Utilize evidence-based medicine to improve patient care practices and outcomes. Participate in research opportunities to advance patient care and treatment. Educate patients, families, students, and other healthcare professionals; serve as an advocate for patients and families navigating the healthcare system. Engage in organizational and departmental meetings, committees, and quality improvement initiatives. Promote interdisciplinary practice and implement strategies to overcome barriers to collaboration. General Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Education Requirements Graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing if APRN, MSN or Master's in Physician Assistant Services. Experience Requirements At least three (3) years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider required. License/Certification/Registration Requirements Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days upon hire. Must obtain prescriptive authority within 30 days of onboarding. IF Advance Practice Nurse Active RN and APRN License in State of Oklahoma AND IF Physician Assistant (PA) Active PA license in State of Oklahoma and Active Physician Assistant certification issued by the NCCPA. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to lead in a complex healthcare environment and build collaborative relationships. Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills; able to influence and manage diplomatically. Flexible and adaptable to multiple priorities in a time-sensitive setting. Proficiency with MS Office and basic understanding of billing and revenue processes. Working knowledge of CRNA and CAA scope of practice and APP policies. Advanced clinical knowledge in anesthesia care, including pharmacology, airway management, and perioperative practices. Proficiency in procedural skills and ability to manage acute and chronic conditions. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and evidence-based decision-making skills. Commitment to ethical principles, patient confidentiality, and informed consent. Ability to work effectively in high-stress situations and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrates initiative for continuous learning and self-improvement. Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to change, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
