EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree and three years related experience in admissions, patient access, or revenue cycle registration or Five years related experience in billing, financial screening/clearance, insurance verification, collections, or procedural scheduling. An equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to the role may be considered for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Infusion authorization experience.
JOB SUMMARY
This position facilitates access to UTMB Procedural Services for new and returning patients, coordinates financial arrangements including financial screening; and communicates with patients, referral sources, and the Care Team regarding patient access and financial issues. This position will financially clear outpatient procedures and will perform scheduling functions for all required appointments including pre- and post-procedure services. Serves as a liaison and information resource for physicians, revenue cycle, nursing support staff, coworkers, admissions, peri-op and ancillary services, and patients or guarantors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsible for coordination of financial clearance and patient registration activities, as well as scheduling of outpatient procedures. Performs tasks related to procedural scheduling for scheduled services. Tasks include verifying benefits, securing authorizations, updating information in EPIC, creating patient estimates, and communicating with patients regarding their out-of-pocket costs related to appointments and surgeries, including information about financial assistance. In addition, this position will perform scheduling tasks for assigned providers and services, which includes understanding of physician preferences and scheduling patterns. Obtains and verifies all patient demographics, insurance coverage and benefits, secures authorization and/or PCP referral, and obtains patient estimates for all services. Secures payment of patient liability prior to patient's arrival for scheduled service. Facilitates communication with patients regarding procedure information, benefit information, financial responsibility, and other financial information related to scheduled procedures. Triages and accurately documents telephone calls from patients including complaints, general information inquiries, and urgent health care concerns. Delivers such information or requests promptly to the appropriate providers or their designees. Serves as information resources for patients, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals by providing accurate and currently applicable information regarding planned or scheduled services to accomplish patient satisfaction and maximum reimbursement. Meets minimum job performance standards for successful probationary and annual review, or as needed on an individual basis. This role maintains Registration Quality Assurance (Q/A) as defined by specific departmental area as measured monthly and annually on performance review, scoring includes any errors reported via internal and outside sources not included in random Q/A process. Provides high quality customer service to both external and internal customers that meet or exceed the service standards of the health care industry. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face customer contact skills, flexible coverage of internal service needs and the continuous application of process improvement methods and skills for services.

Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. Performs related duties as required.

Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments.
SALARY RANGE
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
WORK SCHEDULE
Hybrid position (mostly remote / expected on-site for occasional meetings as needed), 8 hour shifts, Monday through Friday.
