JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a professional position responsible for administering comprehensive wellness and health education programming functions within the Lumberjack Wellness Network. Responsible for assisting in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of departmental policies and procedures related to the area of responsibility. Supervises assigned staff. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Assistant Dean of Students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in recreation management, health, exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field is required. Master's degree is preferred. Three years of related experience is required. Experience administering and/or managing wellness and/or health education programming functions is required. Supervisory experience is preferred. Experience in a higher education setting is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversees development and implementation of a comprehensive health education program to include aspects of alcohol and other drug prevention and peer health education as well as other wellness-related topics. Oversees and provides direction for comprehensive wellness and health promotion programming functions. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates wellness instructors, coaches, and student staff. Coordinates planning, development, promotion, administration, and evaluation of wellness events and programs. Manages annual budget and oversees payroll function related to the area of responsibility. Researches and applies new knowledge and techniques to current policies, procedures, and operations. Oversees program and operational retention and effectiveness through ongoing assessment, intervention, evaluation, and participant feedback. Reviews current departmental policies and procedures and implements changes. Educates campus community about wellness and university wellness-related programs. Serves as a primary liaison to university faculty and staff, student organizations, external organizations and/or vendors, and the general public. Complies with HIPAA standards of confidentiality.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Serves on university and departmental committees, as assigned. Coordinates and/or assists with special events related to the area of responsibility as necessary. Works evenings, nights, and weekends as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures. Knowledge of professional standards and regulations. Knowledge of student wellness organizations, programs, resources, and services. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility. Organizational skills in managing projects simultaneously while maintaining a satisfactory work product. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs. Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize, prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed. Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
